The new Bishop’s Stortford High School campus has officially opened at St James’ Park, opening its doors to secondary and sixth form students for the new academic year.

The new school has moved from its 1960s base at London Road to a new, state-of-the-art campus less than half a mile away at St James’ Park, Countryside’s 750-home mixed use development off St James Way..

Committed to providing students with a fantastic learning environment, the Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’, Bishop’s Stortford High School will benefit the wider community, not only expanding its pupil capacity intake, but also providing brand-new, modern school facilities including a sports hall, conference centre and games pitches, as well as high-quality teaching spaces.

Surrounded by extensive green space, Countryside’s St James Park development will deliver 750 new homes once complete, in addition to a new primary school, a care home, employment centre and a Local Centre with shops, a restaurant, gym and community facilities.

Martin Leach, Managing Director, Vistry Major Projects, said: “The new Bishop’s Stortford High School complex is a fantastic educational facility for the residents of St James’ Park and wider community and we are thrilled to see it open its doors in time for the new academic year. We have been working with the school and Herts County Council for several years to facilitate the new school complex, which has been delivered as a direct benefit of the St James’ Park neighbourhood, with a contribution of over £10 million made by Countryside (now part of the Vistry Group) to secondary school education in the area.”
